Living Space

Picture of the living space past each of the suites
The Music Interest Floor is located on the ninth floor of Wilder Tower. The living space consists of four suites with individual lounges, three double rooms, and a double for the RA. Six people live in each suite, in four singles and one double. The residents share a kitchen and lounge space in the suites.
The MIF housing draw system is separate from the main Residential Life housing lottery. The annual housing draw occurs at the end of the spring semester. We choose our rooms based on accumulated housing points. Members earn two points for every semester at the University of Rochester, two points for every semester as an on-floor member, and one point for every semester as an off-floor member.
MIF also maintains a large practice room on the tenth floor of Wilder. Any member of the University community can use this space. The tenth floor has one large room (roughly the size of four standard double rooms) and an adjoining storage area. Groups or individuals can use our upright piano, drum set, music stands, and chairs; outlets are available for electric instruments.
The Music Interest Floor offers a great living space and an opportunity to participate in a variety of musical and social events. Our floor also has a strong sense of community, and members frequently work, talk, and relax with friends in the lounges.
We welcome any member of the University community, and invite you to visit, learnmore, and meet the members of this thriving organization!
Floor Events and Committees
The Music Interest Floor sponsors many events on and off-campus. We have five committees that help us to promote music and build a sense of community among our members. As a part of their commitment to the organization, all on-floor members are required to serve on a committee.
Fundraising Committee
Fundraising committee provides income that allows us to advance the goals of our organization without requiring dues. We maintain a long-standing partnership with UR Cinema Group and fundraise by selling concessions at the movie screenings. The committee creates new fundraising ideas and works with the treasurer to ensure lasting financial success for the organization.
Performance Committee

ARC of Monroe and MIF
Performances committee plans events on campus and in the greater Rochester area. Members of the committee frequently work with other University groups and community organizations. Recent performances include a benefit concert and a performance with members of the ARC of Monroe County's Gregory Street Blues Band.
Projects Committee
Projects committee plans community service events. They work to provide events that serve Towers residents, the campus and the local community. The committee has hosted open mic nights, a performance in the Rochester public library, and a fundraiser for acharity working to support music education in the Rochester public schools.

Public Relations committee handles publicity and advertising for the organization. In addition to its primary responsibilities – those of distributing flyers and maintaining and advertising space in the tunnels near Wilson Commons – PR is tasked with furnishing ushers at campus concerts.
Social Committee
Social committee works to strengthen the floor community. The committee holds a variety of social events, such as end-of-semester dinners, semi-formals, and recreational trips. Social committee has begun to collaborate with other campus groups. If your group would like to participate in social events with us, contact the social committee chair.
